Holiday Outfits with Statement Earrings

Holiday Outfits with Statement Earrings

Festive earlobes to complete your holiday outfit and get you into the holiday spirit or at least look like it.

Taking fashion risks is something I never gave much thought to. I look back on cringe inducing outfits immortalized in photos with “What was I thinking?” tut tutting in my head. But I remember why I wore these outfits. They made me feel good. They made me feel powerful. They made me less anxious about walking into high school every day where judgments are passed freely and usually not silently. No one ever made fun of me or my outfits to my face but I was shy and the weight of eyeballs felt heavy on me.

My style has evolved and continues to change today. One aspect of an outfit I always think can be a little more wild than my jeans and tees are accessories, specifically earrings. I used to have a ton of piercings in my ears, the better to wear a million earrings in my dear, seven in total. I've only kept the main two intact. I'm drawn to weird and colorful earrings even when I swore up and down I didn't like anything colorful. So I put together some holiday outfits with statement earrings for those who want their ears to be the conversation starters.

I love these giant, glitzy, gold door knockers because at first glance they aren't something I would typically want. I'm fine with giant earrings but too much sparkle can be a turn off. The bling isn't overwhelming and I enjoy the stud detail at the top reminiscent of my faux punk days. These are great to add something unexpected to any outfit, especially if it leans more casual, which is why I wore my Reformation leather jacket for some nice contrast with the gold. Make sure to pull your hair back so everyone will get the full shimmer impact when they see you.

A pop of red is my favorite way to add some interest to an otherwise basic outfit. These are a great new earring addition I picked up this year. I had one pair of red statement earrings gifted to me by my now husband that were my go to for that essential pop of red. I was looking at tassel earrings one day on the interwebs and found these at J Crew. They seemed rather large but had glowing reviews so I dove right in. Great for any holiday with red for a dramatic earring choice that isn't too weird or wild.

These are a Man Repeller staple that I was skeptical of the first time I saw them in one of their photo shoots. They are big, bright, sparkly and bold. My inner adolescent was squealing because they look like a grown up version of the clip on earrings in Pretty Pretty Princess a game which I loved mostly for the jewelry options. The black earrings were my favorite foreshadowing my future fashion sensibilities.

The more I saw them the more I realized they would be a perfect new earrings for multiple pops of color in one pair of earrings. The funny thing about purposefully clashing jewelry is since they don't match it therefore matches everything. Fashion color math. My mom was dazed by the sparkle the first time she saw them and asked if the jewels were real. Real what? Sparkly? Yes. Since one of these is red and green it is the perfect earring for Christmas and holiday activities. Just don't turn your head or wear only one earring to keep the magic alive.
