Spotify Playlists of My Life

Spotify Playlists of My Life

If there is one thing I know; music makes everything more bearable. Having a bad day? Crank your favorite tunes. Also if you are in tune (ha) with your emotions sometimes you need a good cry or want to feel all the feels so you listen to The Goo Goo Dolls, or insert your band of choice, and transport yourself back to junior high and high school when everything was controlled and consumed by your giant feelings. Super niche but you get the point.

I resisted the pull of Spotify for a bit but once it honed in on my musical tastes and genres of choice, why yes I do like scuzzy sounding alt rock reminiscent of the 90’s, it had me. But even better than the mixes made for you, thanks algorithm, are playlists other people make. They usually aren’t exactly what I want but the overall feel and vibe are what makes or breaks it. When I re-watched Running with Scissors a few months ago, I found the playlist from the movie on Spotify and wore it out. Music, when done right, in a movie really takes the experience to the next level, helps you forget you are watching actors and aides you in inhabiting this new world.

Here are the playlists always on repeat or in my repertoire from Spotify.

Shit Show After Party by Ariel Stallings

This playlist is the inspiration for me to add random dance parties to my workout routine. It doesn't matter how my day went after I go all out to a few songs I always feel better. Every. Time. I've learned, through trial, error and living, that I need to move daily for my physical and mental health. This playlist always gets me dancing. The creator is pretty cool too. She is the brains behind Offbeat Bride and all the other projects connected to this first book, website and a million other projects.

Get Slushed

This playlist is the official unofficial soundtrack to our creative meetup group Slushed Sirens made by our fearless leader which as a name is still pretty hilarious to me. The music selection is slightly random with a common thread running through it all focusing on 90’s and early 2000’s hits and nostalgia. Composed of mostly hip hop, chill hip hop is my new favorite sub genre, this is the playlist I would never make but love to listen to and hear new and old favorites.

Opal Songs by Catbirdnyc

Like an opal, this collection of songs bounces from different genres and decades but still seems to work together cohesively. I hate calling anything the “soundtrack of my life” but this one is basically that. I love, mostly, all the songs. There is enough variety to keep me from getting bored. The playlist, or more likely the curator, somehow knows and caters to my various eclectic tastes without knowing me. We have French Chill, poppy 80's synth, relaxing alternative, a new to me Pink Floyd song with chanting and some old school classics to name a few.

The playlist that theoretically says the most about me: most played 2018

I’m a slight newbie when it comes to Spotify only downloading the app and creating an account last summer. Some of the songs on this playlist are undying and always favorites and others I don’t remember listening to once. Most are on the chill side and have female singers and songwriters. St. Vincent, Billie Eilesh and Phoebe Bridgers are mainstays and always welcome in my ears.

Sorry for no post last week I got the dreaded spring cold after staying healthy all winter. It was nice to sleep all day though!
