White DOEN Blouse to Channel Summer
Summer is hypothetically just around the corner but every day I wear this white DOEN blouse in winter it feels like summer.
I am so excited Texas has come out the other side from temperatures too young to drive (16 and under). Even with that victory summer feels far away. To combat these feelings combined with my love for an oversized, long sleeve white top I indulged in one from DOEN last week. I was admiring it from afar when perusing the website to see it was almost sold out. Originally I was going to purchase a Medium but Large was the only size left so I went for it. Since the blouse is already oversized a bit more drama in the sleeves was not a turn off for me. Finding an oversized, breathable and above all interesting looking top isn't easy. I hoped this blouse would end my quest for a lightweight, long sleeve white top I could wear in the summer without getting heatstroke.
The styling on the website also drew me in coupled with the shape of the blouse. In all the different colors the models are styled with jeans. The look is casual but put together like a vintage blouse you reach for when nothing in your closet seems right. It reminds me of something Georgia O'Keeffe might wear to look slightly more dressed up than her old weather worn button downs and jeans with Keds. I appreciate the subtle western vibes.
This top might be the holy grail I was looking for. The cherry on top is DOEN is a sustainable brand which is a priority for me. I try to do the majority of my shopping from ethical and sustainable companies or vintage if I'm in the mood to hunt. Being more conscious and thoughtful about what I purchase is important to combat the compulsion to buy all the things right now! Binge shopping on a bunch of sustainable clothes isn't much better than doing the same with a fast fashion company if purchasing solely for the thrill. I have two white long sleeve tops from Macy's when I still periodically shopped there. They have the look I was going for, oversized with long sleeves, but are not breathable and not much fun to wear in the summer, the season for these tops.
Another thing I like about this blouse is the subtle boho vibes. There is enough structure and interest in the blouse without looking too casual. I love a good loose boho top but some of them scream, “Look, I came out of the 60's!” with too many bells and whistles. The simplicity of a simultaneously nice and unique white blouse is something I would urge everyone to find their version of. This blouse can truly go with anything in my closet and I intend to wear it out this summer whenever possible.
The DOEN Jane blouse in seasalt checks all the boxes for me; breathable, long and interesting sleeves, oversized, soft, and will go with anything. Also looks great tucked in. When you need to channel summer vibes but the temperature says no way just layer up and feel the sun on your face even if the windchill tries to ruin your wishes.
Will I ever get tired of these Everlane Mom esque jeans? Probably not since the fit and look is low maintenance in the best way. They are the perfect amount of slightly baggy to accommodate the small amount of stretch in the fabric, which is great, and plenty of pockets for people who need pockets. I got lucky and the Texas weather cooperated with my vision at a balmy 70 degrees outside. One of many reasons people love our state.
I was going to layer this blouse with a nice J Crew turtleneck in a contrasting color, merlot, but I really like the feel of the fabric against bare skin and decided against it. For those in colder climates imagine a few added layers like a turtleneck under and a coat over. Maybe some boots so your toes won't freeze. When you need a winter pick me up just channel summer with your clothes and the weather will soon follow.
