Denim Jacket Outfits for Spring
My love of vintage and the hunt to acquire unique pieces seems to only grow the more I find. Some of the best vintage pieces are the ones I can pluck from the cleaning out pile from someone else's closet for free which is ideal. If you have access to other people's closets picking up some free pieces is super easy. Like all free things the caveat is to make sure you only take things you actually like and that fit the way you prefer.
One of the vintage clothing treasures I've been on the prowl for what seems like my whole life is the oversized vintage Levi's denim jacket. I tried the small cropped denim jackets but they always feel too restrictive. I wanted something I can swim in size wise. These vintage denim jackets can be found on all the usual vintage scrounging sites but the price is usually ridiculous. So I kept my eyes peeled for the denim unicorn to emerge. Then one day I found it hiding in someone else's closet.
It feels very odd and sacrosanct to go into someone's house who recently passed away for the sole purpose of looking through and taking some of their possessions away. It feels wrong even though you know, logically, they will not haunt you or pop out of the shadows for touching their things. After my grandmother passed away her apartment had to be meticulously combed through for items to donate and for keepsakes that shouldn't be tossed. I didn't have anything in particular in mind on the ride over after her funeral.
After walking through the bedroom closet nothing really spoke to me. I had picked out a few figurines and some furniture to pick up later. Opening the small closet in the entryway I had no expectations about what could be hanging on the other side of that door. There was my dream denim jacket nestled between other outerwear. As responsible and organized families do people were putting Post It notes on items they had laid claim to with a different color for each person. Nothing had yet been claimed in this closet so I tentatively checked the jacket for any errant Post It notes.
I tried it on over my black dress and knew I had finally found it. The perfect denim jacket. After going through the pockets just to make sure no one else wanted it I staked my claim. If it wasn't already too warm I would have kept it on for the rest of the day in a desperate attempt to make my outfit which screamed funeral a little more casual. It was a completely unexpected surprise that made the day a little nicer. Since then I've worn this denim jacket whenever and where ever. Usually it can be found in the back of my car in case the weather changes rapidly; a Texas norm.
Denim jacket outfits for spring during this nebulous time of supposedly spring weather. As the perfect layering piece and the most versatile lightweight jacket in your closet the styling possibilities are endless.
When you can't find a top just wear your jacket as one. Be as buttoned up or as free as you want but at least two buttons is the safe way to minimize exposure opportunities.
When it gets warm enough to wear a dress but you know the AC is going to chill you to the bone. Double denim won't let you down. Wear the jacket over one shoulder if needed.
For when the weather is acting like spring means downpours, sometimes true, and cold weather, simultaneously, isn't that what winter is for? Add some pops of red to inspire some spring weather.
