Layers for Summer
Lightweight layering for summer may sound counterintuitive but it serves a purpose, I promise.
To combat the chilly AC in office buildings and everywhere else where you aren't paying the electric bill.
To protect yourself from the sun, in addition to the SPF we SHOULD be slathering on daily.
Fashion because layering allows you to wear your tried and true pieces in a new and different way.
One morning, I was staring into my closet and grabbed my blue Material Girl Dress and a Tradlands Tunic to layer on top since the dress has spaghetti straps. I've worn this outfit many times before, a summer office outfit staple, but today I wasn't feeling it. So I went back to my closet. After many rounds of closet clean outs I like the majority of the clothes hanging in there but I wanted a new combination. I looked at my white Madewell ruffle sleeve top and felt the urge to wear it but with what?
I would need a different bottom instead of a dress... Wait. What if I wore the top underneath my dress? Light bulb. Some days the creative juices flow more freely for outfit creation. Maybe I had woken up on the right side of the bed. Sometimes I get these random outfit ideas and they work out or they don't. I'm happy to say this was one worked out just as planned. The Madewell top didn't add bulk or bunch up underneath and I got some extra sun protection while also not violating the dreaded dresscode at work.
I decided to double up on breathable summer essentials in my white DOEN blouse and black Everlane linen dress for maximum coverage without looking too much like a nun.
