Dresses and Trenches for Rainy Fall Days

Dresses and Trenches for Rainy Fall Days

In honor of the rainiest September and October I’ve ever experienced I’m reposting this for those confounded by the weather and with no idea what to wear. Dresses and trenches are the perfect outfit recipe for a rainy day.

This past week in Texas we had Seattle level rain. Everyday I anticipated rain and this started draining my senses. You can't go outside without preparing for a downpour to happen. You have to wear protective clothing whether you want to or not. When the weather starts to dictate your style and outfits I get creatively frustrated. I feel dumb lugging around a giant umbrella and rain proof coat for theoretical rain that never happens. Eventually the clouds lifted and we had two sunny days in a row soaking up all the excess water and making us feel alive again. Lesson learned: I don't like rain unless it goes away fairly quickly, one to two days tops.

To keep myself from going crazy I brought my newest trench coat into the mix of outfits to prepare myself for apocalyptic rain storms in the future. This trench from a recent Uniqlo and J.W. Anderson collaboration was acquired last year. I plucked it out of the sale section when I couldn't see myself without a double sided trench where one side is plaid! Mad for plaid, always. Thankfully or not we didn't have torrential rain until last week when I could put this trench to the proper test. As a giant trench goes, I ordered an XL since that was the last size left, it performed perfectly not getting a drop of water on my outfit underneath.

These boots are perfect for adding a requisite pop of color and being fairly rain proof. Definitely great for puddle splashing. I've had this LOFT dress forever and it is the perfect winter layering piece. It is warm, has buttons and most importantly is loose enough to hide rogue food babies or other lumps you would like to conceal. The plaid side of the trench seemed the perfect match for the relative blank canvas I laid out underneath. Mad for plaid is somewhat a personal motto of mine and this trench personifies it 10/10.

This is the perfect dress if you are watching The Alienist, like me, and coveting the giant sleeves and fun adornments covering Victorian women's clothes, mainly the sleeves. I love the shoulder puffs on display which are recreated for the present by Reformation. The collar and wrist detail is superb for making what could be a run of the mill long sleeve dress into something special. Feel free to look less buttoned up or more Victorian depending on your preferences. I've worn this dress with my trusty Vans and felt more casual in the best possible way.

Sleeve love.
