How I'm Enjoying Spooky Season aka Fall and Winter

Halloween is not the end of spooky season for me. It is much easier to be creeped out in the colder months, for me, then in summer when I'm constantly sweating. The only horror happening in summer is if your AC conks out!

Watching more atmospheric horror movies

This was inspired by watching Suspiria the 2018 version. I could have watched in last year in theaters when I was wandering around downtown Portland but I thought spending so long in the theater would get in the way of me exploring the city. No regrets but it was definitely worth the wait. I plan on watching the original since it seems like they will be different besides the main plot points. Also this is unofficially stay in season facilitated by all the streaming platforms.

Reading all the books

I just got through with Talking to Strangers the first Malcolm Gladwell book I’ve read and can’t wait to retroactively consume the rest! Also finished My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh which was mostly as weird as I expected. The protagonist is similar to Eileen but the biting cold isn’t as important to the story. A book I recently finished that will get you into the spooky season spirit or just happy you don’t live someplace quite as cold is Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk. Set in Poland and complete with incompetent detectives, murder and animals. Currently reading Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow and it is just as engrossing as fiction. It is still a strange phenomenon to be so intrigued by reality that reads like a suspenseful thriller.

Writing all the time

Not to brag but something about cooler weather, or less distractions, makes it easier for me to write more frequently. Once I’m inside with no obligations all I’m doing is reading, writing or sleeping.

Drinking all the tea

I have finally succumbed to influencer marketing. I don't care though because my love of tea is above that. Davids Tea ran a promo code with Simply Nailogical and as a avid tea drinker I had to try out some of their blends. Now I’m stocked with all the tea I could ever need for the winter.

Stay cozy and spooky! 👻
