The Perks of Going to a Concert With Your Parents

The Perks of Going to a Concert With Your Parents

Last Friday, I went out to a rock concert with my parents. We were seeing a family member play a show at the House of Blues. Since we had free tickets we were relegated to the standing room only section but besides that we had a great time. These below perks assume your parents are alive, responsible, willing and able to make decisions that are good for you, drive and spend money.

Pretend to be a teen again.

I make a concerted effort to never be alone at concerts just to keep creeps away. I always get glances but the sight of my parents, flanking me on either side, was a pretty high barrier that no one was brave enough to breach. While I was scream singing Led Zeppelin lyrics, some people would look at me like I was the weird one. I didn't care. This was the closest I would get to seeing one of my favorite bands live. With my parents as defacto bodyguards looking was all people could do.

I also didn't get carded in line. Probably because they thought I was too young to drink. A great back handed compliment if I ever got one. I rectified that fairly quickly with my ID swiftly placed under their nose. Your parents have seen you at your worst, probably, so any minor mischief at a concert is basically nothing to worry about.

No driving necessary!

Is there anything worse than driving into the city, Dallas, finding parking, walking to the venue and then driving back home. Exhausting!

Free drinks minus creepy dudes

This assumes your parents are willing to buy you or themselves drinks. Once we all received those coveted red wristbands the message was clear. So for the first time my Dad asked me what I wanted to drink. I have been to the House of Blues before so I know they are fairly competent behind the bar. I requested my usual go to cocktail; the friendly margarita. For an overpriced drink at a concert it was pretty good! I could taste the tequila, not too sweet and even though it was filled to the brim with ice it didn't get significantly watered down until the very end.

Leaving early

If you know anything about parents they like to leave early. I convinced mine to watch two bands perform instead of just the one we showed up for. So as everyone swarmed the stage to see the headliner we were out the door with no concert traffic in our way.

My actual teenage self would be mortified at the prospect of going to any type of concert with my parents. One thing I've learned from attending concerts is that most people ignore you unless you are acting super crazy, running into them or basically naked. People usually stick to their tribe of people that tagged along. We also took some great selfies.
