Fall Wedding Outfit

Fall Wedding Outfit

After much debating and constant second guessing, so much fun, I've decided on a wedding guest outfit, finally. This look screams is it actually fall because this is a fall look. Fall is my favorite time of year in terms of weather and fashion. I love layers, boots and dark moody color palettes.

I wanted to avoid the dreaded, but accurate, bridesmaid dress conundrum of buying a dress, wearing it to a wedding once and never wearing it again. There are tons of options at all price points from renting to buying something with versatility and I opted for the latter. When Everlane first came out with the wrap dresses I was like, “Cool, but where will I wear that?” I rarely dress up for anything or have reason to. I wasn't sure if I needed a wrap dress in my wardrobe even though, I know, they are super versatile and this is my siren song in terms of purchasing decisions.

Cue the wedding invite and the self induced shopping frenzy for something that is wedding appropriate but not boring, designers try harder! I ended up trying a few duds, red jumpsuit from Free People, and a keeper I probably wouldn't wear to a non artsy wedding, red floral dress from And Other Stories. So I was at an impasse. Try another garment or cobble something together in my closet. I decided to gamble with the third times the charm luck and ordered the Everlane wrap dress in plum because I love dark reds and purples. I originally wanted black but it was sold out. I figured a dark purple would look less somber while still giving me plenty of wiggle room with outfit concocting in the future.

I sized way down, from reviewers advice, and I’m so glad I did. Since the dress is very adjustable, unless you order a size way out of your size range, you can cinch it tighter or looser depending on the look you want and how defined you want your waist. I ordered a 6 which is usually too small to accommodate my hips, can’t remember the last time I wore a size 6 pant, but the fit was perfect. The fabric didn’t pull across my hips but has a nice drape while not being oversized on the top. I could see this generous sizing as a problem for the more petite customers but it is refreshing to have a dress fit in all the right places when your bust, waist and hips are all different sizes. If you are contemplating buying one of the Everlane wrap dresses make sure to read the reviews! They are usually more informative than the sizing charts provided.

I already owned the clutch and shoes, the most comfortable heels I've ever worn, so I just needed to add jewelry. Side note about these heels: they almost made it from our hotel, the Vdara, to Cesar's Palace and back so if you know about the distances in Las Vegas you know these heels passed the test. Even so we had to stop into the Gap for some bright pink flip flops or else I was not going to make it. One of the great things about Las Vegas is no matter what you are wearing and how out of place you might feel there is ALWAYS someone wearing something “crazier” so you don't get many stares even if you are wearing a black fit and flare dress with pink flip flops. Life lessons!

These little snake earrings make me feel like an undercover Disney villain or the evil stepmom to be that no one notices the warning signs of her being a bad person. These are small and subtle enough that they wouldn’t seem out of place at a wedding. Going with the pretend villain theme the rest of my accessories are black because I love black and it goes with everything!
