Skinesque Mask Review

Skinesque Mask Review

I'm not a huge beauty fanatic. At my height of my complicated make up routine in high school, black liquid eyeliner and full coverage foundation, I wasn't obsessed with make up. I used it as a tool to look a certain way. When I grew tired of poking myself in the eye in the morning and having the black goo coating the perimeter of my eyes and my lashes start to seep out of my eyes; I dialed it back.

This lead me to my current routine which is pretty basic. Tinted moisturizer, with sunscreen, concealer, eyebrow powder, face powder and blush. Sometimes new things get thrown into the mix but this is what I stick to most days.

I recently signed up for the Rachel Zoe Box of Style and was pleasantly surprised by all the contents. I was a little wary of the Skinesque face masks. I never tried sheet masks before only the really thick ones you smear all over your face that tightens up your skin and wash off. Those were never that great to me. If anything even slightly positive happened at all I would be impressed.

Since I never spend that much on beauty products I'm a skeptic when it comes to claims of what they can do for their hefty price tags. This one didn't cost too much so I didn't feel like I was wasting money. The face mask kit comes with an exfoliating face wash, moisturizer and the mask.

The cleanser worked so well dead skin started slipping off my face as I lightly rubbed in circular motions. I also used some on the back of my arms where my dreaded keratosis pilaris lives. The small amount of cleanser in the packet goes a long way. I used it on my face, neck chest, upper back and back of my arms.

After stepping out of the shower I didn’t do my usual routine of BHA cream and moisturizer for the moisturizer that comes with the mask. It is cool and translucent which makes me feel cool and futuristic. Then comes the part everyone has been waiting for. The black mask.

I carefully peel it apart so it didn’t rip and slap it on my face. I feel like a slug and look terrifying. Excess magic goo from the mask is slathered on my hands. I also rub it on my neck and lie back to relax on my bed for 15 to 20 minutes per the instructions. My eyelashes skim the mask every time I blink so I keep them closed.

At the end of 20 minutes I barely notice the mask since my face has absorbed most of the liquid and melded onto my face. I am intrigued with how this looks in the mirror. I send a picture to my husband who responds appropriately with, “I will have nightmares now. Thanks.”

My face is glowing and shiny because it can't absorb all this liquid gold so quickly. The mask and kit are supposed to brighten, along a whole laundry list of other things, and I can see the brightness already. I hope my skin starts absorbing the goo faster since I don't want it smearing all over my pillow.

The next morning, I wake up and see my face is shiny in that healthy moisturized way. I dab on SPF and thankfully the glow is still radiating from underneath. I've almost run out of my five allotted cleanser, moisturizer and mask kits and will be reordering soon. You could say I'm a sheet mask convert.
