Self Isolation Inspired Poem

Writing won’t save the world but it does keep me sane. Currently I’m in a writing frenzy which ebbs and flows all the time and doing a memoir writing challenge with Shut up and Write. I don’t feel old enough to have a proper memoir but the change of perspective keeps me motivated.

This poem was inspired by my daily walk around the neighborhood I started in mid March when stay at home orders began. Just looking outside you wouldn’t think anything was different. The grass and flowers are still growing. Birds are chirping. The dissonance is starting to creep in around the corners like when people move into the street to avoid passing each other on the sidewalk in close proximity. Or masks hanging from the rear view mirrors in parked cars.
