May 11 Scarves for Spring from Madewell

After a 3 month clothing shopping hiatus, to celebrate my dedication, I bought 3 scarves from Madewell. Not exactly accurate but it sounds ironic. You could argue, as a nit picky person, that accessories aren't really clothes. But they serve the same purpose, ultimately, of creating an outfit so debate amongst yourselves.

One of the accessories that truly baffled me was scarves. It's just a strip of fabric wrapped around your neck, ponytail or arm. So why does it look so chic? And why do I only associate them with the bandannas I wore at Girl Scout camp? I decided to try out some scarves in cotton and silk from Madewell since they were on sale and I had a discount code. The best way for me to mitigate risk is the pull of discounts.

Without any other hard labor, I transformed into this chic person who can pull off a scarf simply by tying it around my neck. I'm still not sure why this look always appears as the cool way to elevate an outfit. I suspect it has something to do with elusive French girl style ethos, looking good without seeming to try too hard, or that scarves were a staple in a bygone era where women would protect their hair with a scarf while donning huge sunglasses. Cue up the quintessential shot of freedom when the main female character whips off her scarf in a convertible and lets it fly away in the wind while she laughs delightfully. I think it is a version of style time travel. Somehow, it looks more put together and thoughtful than a necklace or giant earrings. Most of these outfits skew more tomboy to contrast the feminine scarf detail.
